My Picks Part Deux

November 12, 2008

Alright, my picks for the postseason pretty much blew.  I didn’t have the Rays or Phillies in the World Series.  However my award picks are right on target with one exception.

I was displaying no genius when I picked Soto and Longoria for rookies.  And I was accurate when I said Lincecum should win the NL Cy Young.  I was a little off when I expected the writers to choose Sabathia, however.  Hey, maybe more than a few of them are paying attention!  But then again, some of them aren’t Volquez is ineligible for the award and was fourth in voting.  Ahem.

Managers will be picked today.  I chose Maddon and Manuel.  Some are picking Piniella but I have to tell you, what Manuel did with a pitching staff that had holes in it much of the year is amazing.  Plus, these guys are no “Idiots” like they had in Boston a few years ago.  Not that there was that much public dissension but they weren’t a brotherhood.

Again, Maddon should get it, no question.  People are touting Francona but to get a team like the Rays to believe in themselves and not get down after, what, 7 straight losses after the break…good enough for me.

I chose Cliff Lee for AL Cy Young.  It shouldn’t be close, though I’m being cynical again and expect some writers to vote for Mussina.  Given Volquez’ showing for ROY, I sure hope the writers remember Nolan Ryan isn’t eligible.  He didn’t have a win!
